RASIT Arts and Culture Symposia are a series of events that bring people who are interested in the arts together to share their ideas, knowledge, and experience around a theme.
The first four symposia were directed at university students, graduates, and faculty members to present their papers and research. The success of the events has allowed them to grow, with participants coming from different countries and backgrounds. From 1995 to 2003, the definition of ‘arts’ grew with each symposium. Apart from fine arts and art history, the symposia brought films, theaters, and music into the fold. Since 2004, RASIT Arts and Culture Symposia has been working together people in all arts disciplines and media: filmmakers, academics, researchers, and students in the arts Archivists, historians, curators, policymakers and professionals from different fields, including education, the humanities, science, and social sciences.
In line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, and since 2016, RASIT has been embracing Socio-Economic Sustainable Development through the creative arts. Our events focus on the critical role of the creative economy in promoting innovation, inclusive economic growth, and opportunity for all. We have built upon the work of RASIT and its Arts and Culture Council for over 50 years. By connecting partners, old and new, from across the globe, we raise awareness, collaboration, and build understanding of the creative economy as a driver of sustainable development.
With our fellow artists and partners, we convene symposia and conversations about how to draw upon the magic, complexity, and impact of the creative economy to tackle Sustainable Development, particularly issues of income inequality and climate emergencies. RASIT has been building meaningful cultural relations by exploring concepts of creativity, the arts, economics, development, sustainability, and the intersections between them through a wide range of events.
