The 2009/2010 Award dedicated to honor Iraqi Women in Science
**************************************************************************************************************
Call for Nomination
Though Iraqi women had many opportunities in the past to participate in
scientific research and teaching. But now, war, economical sanction,
and societal disruption, led to incursions into the rights of women—
particularly professional women. The majority of Iraqi women scientists,
engineers, and health professionals were cut off from their institutions,
colleagues, libraries, and laboratories; they worked under difficult
circumstances and challenged the war, and terrorism to continue their
profession each in her field: teaching, serving patients, conducting
research, and updating their knowledge with all the limited resources.
Although the current situation of all Iraqi scholars is very difficult, the
problems fall particularly hard on women.
RASIT Women in Science International League Executive Board is
providing professional and moral support for Women in Science
colleagues in Iraq through acknoledging and recognizing their
achievements.
Therefore, the 2009/2010 Fatima El-Fehria International Award for
Women in Science will be dedicated to honor Iraqi women in Science
particularly those remaining in Iraq.
Nominations for the 2009 awards will be accepted through December 15,
2008.
The Fatima El-Fehria International Award for Women in Science is a very
high honor that is awarded to a small number of women of our world
whose impact has been outstanding, sometimes under unusual or
difficult circumstances, and who have demonstrated the abilities to be
great leaders, leaving an indelible imprint on today's societies and
accomplishment for future generations to consider.
