Building Scientific Communities

Popularization of science is an endeavor to image scientific concepts in
such a way that every person (especially non-scientists) can understand
the fundamental objectives and have an idea of what science in essence is.
Although many Arab scientists are renowned and their fingerprints are so
clear in research and development worldwide, unfortunately a great number
of the public in Arab States cannot tell exactly what 'science' is all about.  In
fact, the gap between scientists and the Arab Societies seems to be huge.
The question asked here is whether it is possible to popularize science in
Arab States and, if so, to what extent?!

Measuring development - How science and politics work together
An international conference on “measuring development will be organized at
UNESCO Headquarters from 1 to 3 February 2012. Opened by Irina Bokova,
UNESCO’s Director-General, several workshop, two plenary sessions and a final
round table will offer a unique occasion to question the relevance of indicators used
in today’s world to measure economic performance and social progress.

Orbit TV - ”Oyoun Beirut” Live Show
The Success of “Science Café” in Lebanon has made “Oyoun Beirut” Live Show at
Orbit TV to invite HRH Dr Princess Nisreen El-Hashemite as a special guest.  For
more than 30 minutes, the Presenters did express the importance of “Science
Café”, and did acknowledge the success of it, and did highlight the increase within
the public attendance to Science Café seminars.  The Orbit TV Station has
requested to broadcast the Science Café seminars live.

Children's Science Cafe.. First one in Arab States
Through the "Science Cafe" Program, RASIT establishes a monthly seminars
committed to involving school students in learning more about and debating
science. Each month, a Science Café seminar mainly at schools, gives students
seats to listen to Scientists who play an important part in developing and improving
our lives, both behind the scenes and in the spotlight.
