Undergraduate Foundation Program with British Universities
1984: a special educational programme known as “ RASIT Undergraduate Foundation Program” was developed
by HRH Professor Prince Adel El-Hashemite. The Program enables students from Non-British Commonwealth
Countries to further their University undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, Political Science
Law, Natural Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Pharmacy and Medicine.
The problems facing students from Non-British Commonwealth Countries were (a) the accreditation of the
National General Certificate with the English General Advanced Certificate in order to allow such students to be
admitted into university undergraduate degree program; and (b) no guarantee for such student to be admitted
into the subject of his/her choice. Even any student from Non-British Commonwealth Countries who studied the
British GCE A Level has no guarantee to be accepted into any British University for undergraduate degree
program.
Based on RASIT Founder’s collective data resulted over the period of 20 years of research and studies, Prince
Adel El-Hashemite utilized this data and information by way of forming a special committee to evaluate the
syllabus of each country General Secondary Certificate, in order to narrow the gap of differences between the
British General Advanced Certificate (i.e., GCE A-Level) and the National General Secondary Certificate.
This Special Committee was chaired by Prince Adel and consisted of three Professors from the Board of
Examination of University of London and two persons from the Non-British Commonwealth Country’s Ministry of
Education and four members of RASIT.
This Special Committee did conclude a special syllabus as treatment for the above mentioned problems that
would facilitate guaranteed entry and admission to the subject of choice of the foreign student into the British
Undergraduate Degree Programmes at the British Universities, in replacement to the 2 years British GCE A-Level
Studies. Further, this syllabus should be taken by foreign students either in England (UK) or via the accredited
overseas English Schools, and this syllabus must be taught in one academic year. Furthermore, this syllabus is
known as “RASIT Undergraduate Foundation Programme”.
In year 1986 , this programme was implemented with University of Sussex, University College London, Surrey
University , University of Glasgow , University of Strathclyde, City University, Heriot-Watt University, Brunel
University and Cardiff University. His Majesty the Late King Hussein of Jordan was the supporter for the
implementation of RASIT Undergraduate Foundation Programme within the national schools of the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan.
In year 1989, RASIT Undergraduate Foundation Programme was adopted by the British Ministry of Education
under the name of “GCSE”.
